The Public Works Department (PWD) and Water Resource Department (WRD) has come together to carry out work on re-construction of a culvert along the main road on the Parra-Verla-Canca border, beautification and widening of the road on the stretch was taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore on Tuesday.
“This has been a Portuguese era culvert which is in dilapidated condition. The PWD and WRD will take up the work of the culvert and to also widen the road,” said Vinod Paliencar, WRD Minister.
“This culvert is like a mini-bridge that connects Mapusa to Calangute and most vehicles use this road to move towards the coastal belt to Calangute and Candolim and even to Anjuna and Vagator,” he added.
The WRD minister was speaking after kick-starting the work in the presence of Calangute MLA Michael Lobo and Verla-Canca Sarpanch Milton Marques.
He said that the work has been tendered to Aguiar Construction and will be completed at the cost of Rs 1.5 crore.
